Why FY for Brisbane’s southside
Our Slacks Creek yard and showroom sits just over the Logan boundary, twenty to thirty minutes from most of the southside. Rochedale is about 6 km from the gate, Eight Mile Plains about 8 km, Runcorn about 10 km, MacGregor about 11 km, Sunnybank about 12 km, Mount Gravatt about 14 km, Holland Park about 17 km and Carindale about 18 km, so a spare post is never far away.
Every panel is made to order. Slat, picket and blade panels come 2400 mm wide (vertical picket 2350 mm) in 1200 mm and 1800 mm heights, powder coated in Black (Night Sky), Monument or White, and welded locally to suit the block. Custom sizes are normal, and custom orders are often order today, pick up tomorrow. See the full range on our Brisbane aluminium fencing page.
Installation work is led by the director, Kejin Yang, who holds an active QBCC trade contractor licence (no. 15027695). Buy supply-only at wholesale prices, or have us measure, make and install. Either way the quote is free and holds for 30 days.

Southside suburbs we cover
Our southside runs from the Brisbane City Council boundary at Rochedale and Eight Mile Plains, up the Pacific Motorway (M1) to Westfield Garden City, across to Sunnybank Plaza and the Griffith University Nathan campus, over the Mount Gravatt lookout and Toohey Forest, and along the Gateway Motorway to Carindale. Postcodes 4109, 4113, 4116, 4117, 4121, 4122, 4123 and 4152 make up most of the work, plus the older streets of Coorparoo and Annerley near QEII Jubilee Hospital. Fencing southside Brisbane blocks means 1960s brick homes off Kessels Road one day and new Stretton estates the next. Our service areas page has the wider list; our Logan aluminium fencing page covers south of the yard.

What southside blocks throw at a fence
Clay and cut benches
Many Mount Gravatt and Holland Park blocks were cut and filled into the clay, leaving a retaining wall on the boundary. A fence on that wall raises approval and fixing questions; see our guide to a fence on a retaining wall in Queensland.
Slopes
A Wishart or Tarragindi side boundary can drop half a metre over three panels, so panels rake with the ground or step down in level sections; see our raked versus stepped guide for sloping blocks.
Storm season
Summer storms hit the exposed ridges hard. Welded panels, matching posts and a 10 year warranty on the aluminium are the answer; see our quick facts page.
Older timber fences
Much of Sunnybank, MacGregor and Holland Park went up in the 1960s and 1970s, and the hardwood palings are done. Swapping them for aluminium is our most quoted job; see replacing a timber fence with aluminium.
Brick piers
Carindale and Mansfield frontages often have brick piers with tired infill; panels are made to the exact opening, see fence panels between brick piers.
Corner blocks
Council may limit height near the corner for driver sight lines; check with council before you set the front height and see our Queensland fence height rules guide.
Brisbane City Council fence rules, in plain English
In the Brisbane City Council area a domestic fence up to 2 m high generally needs no building approval, so a standard 1800 mm boundary fence sits under the line. Over 2 m, or on a boundary that already has a retaining wall, approval may be needed, so check with council before you order. If the boundary line is in doubt, check your survey plan.
Brisbane City Plan 2014 maps a Traditional building character overlay lot by lot. Coorparoo and Annerley carry substantial overlay land, with pockets through Holland Park; Sunnybank, Eight Mile Plains, Carindale and Wishart sit outside it. In the overlay, the acceptable outcome for a front fence describes a timber paling or wire fence no more than 1.2 m high and at least 20% transparent, or 50% transparent in local character significance areas.
A powder-coated aluminium panel does not meet that acceptable outcome as written, so an aluminium front fence on an overlay lot goes through the performance outcome instead: a conversation with council or a certifier, not an automatic no, and a widely spaced vertical picket at 1200 mm makes the strongest case. Our guide to character home front fences in Brisbane covers it; check with council on whether your lot is mapped.
General information only; confirm your site with Brisbane City Council or a building certifier before you build.
Gates on the southside
On the sloped driveways typical of Mount Gravatt and Holland Park a sliding gate is usually the right call: a swing leaf has to clear a driveway that rises or falls, while a slider runs level along the fence line. On the flat blocks of Sunnybank and MacGregor a pair of swing gates works well. Both come assembled or fully welded and installed, quoted per opening after a free measure; see our driveway gates page.
Pedestrian gates start from $295 and match the panel style. Sliding gate motors start from $770 and swing gate motors from $1,100, and the power connection is not included: you arrange an electrician, and we fit the motor once power is at the gate.

Frequently asked questions
Does FY Fencing install aluminium fencing in Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills?
Yes. Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills are about 12 km from our Slacks Creek yard, so they are among the most regular postcodes on the install calendar. We measure the run, make the welded panels to suit the block and install them. Most Sunnybank work is 1800 mm horizontal slat or vertical blade down the side and back boundaries, often replacing an original timber fence, with a matching pedestrian or driveway gate at the front. If you would rather do the job yourself, the same panels are available supply-only at wholesale prices for pickup or delivery. Either way, the measure and the quote are free.
How far is the FY Fencing yard from Mount Gravatt and Upper Mount Gravatt?
The yard at Unit 2/3363 Pacific Hwy, Slacks Creek is about 12 km from Upper Mount Gravatt and about 14 km from Mount Gravatt by road, straight down the Pacific Motorway (M1) to the Springwood or Underwood exit. Outside peak traffic that is a short trip, which is why so many Mount Gravatt owners come down to the showroom to see the slat, picket and blade panels in the three colours before they order. It also means an installed job is never far from a spare post or bracket. Delivery is available at a charge quoted per suburb, but plenty of customers collect a DIY kit themselves on a Saturday morning.
Do I need council approval for an 1800 mm aluminium fence in Eight Mile Plains?
Generally no. Across the Brisbane City Council area a domestic fence up to 2 m high generally needs no building approval, and an 1800 mm panel on level ground sits under that line. The picture changes if the fence goes over 2 m, or if it sits on a boundary that already has a retaining wall, because approval may then be needed. In those cases check with council before you order. If you are unsure where the boundary actually runs, check your survey plan rather than trusting the old fence line. Our Queensland fence height rules guide covers the common situations in more detail, and the free measure is a good time to raise any doubts.
Can I put an aluminium front fence on a character home in Coorparoo or Annerley?
Possibly, but not automatically. Much of Coorparoo and Annerley sits inside the Traditional building character overlay under Brisbane City Plan 2014. For a front fence in the overlay, the acceptable outcome is a fence no more than 1.2 m high and at least 20% transparent, or 50% transparent in local character significance areas. A powder-coated aluminium panel does not meet that acceptable outcome as written, so it is assessed through the performance outcome instead, which is a conversation with council or a certifier rather than an automatic no. A widely spaced vertical picket at 1200 mm makes the strongest case. Those criteria are written for the frontage; for side and rear runs, check with council.
My Holland Park block slopes. Will FY Fencing make the panels to follow it?
Yes, and this is the main reason southside owners have us measure rather than guessing from a tape. Holland Park and Mount Gravatt boundaries often drop half a metre over three panels. The panels can be raked, so the top rail follows the ground and the gap underneath stays even, or stepped, so each panel sits level and the run drops in short vertical jumps. Raked suits a steady fall; stepped suits sharper changes and looks more formal from the street. Because every panel is welded locally, we make each one to the measured fall instead of packing a flat panel up at one end. Our raked versus stepped guide explains how to choose.
Can FY Fencing put an aluminium fence on top of a retaining wall in Wishart?
Often yes, but there are two questions to settle first. The first is approval: a fence on a boundary that already has a retaining wall may need council approval even when the fence itself is under 2 m, so check with council before you order. The second is fixing. Posts can go in the ground behind the wall or onto flange plates, depending on what the wall is made of and how it was built, and we look at the wall during the free measure and tell you which option suits it. Our guide to fences on retaining walls in Queensland covers the detail, and check your survey plan if the wall sits close to the boundary.
Sliding or swing driveway gate for a steep Mount Gravatt driveway?
Sliding, in most cases. A swing gate leaf has to clear the driveway surface through its whole arc, and on a driveway that rises or falls the leaf either scrapes or has to be hung so high that the gap underneath looks wrong. A sliding gate runs along the fence line on a level track, so the driveway slope does not matter as long as there is room beside the opening for the gate to slide back. On a flat MacGregor or Sunnybank block a pair of swing gates works well and avoids that run-off space. We measure the opening and the fall for free and quote the gate assembled or fully welded and installed.
Does FY Fencing supply pool fencing on the southside?
No. FY Fencing Supplies does not supply pool fencing or pool-safety barriers, and nothing on this page is designed or sold for use around a pool. Our aluminium panels, posts and gates are for boundary fencing, front fencing, privacy screening and driveway or pedestrian entrances in suburbs such as Sunnybank, Mount Gravatt and Carindale. If you have a pool in the yard, treat the pool barrier as a separate job for a pool fencing supplier and a pool safety inspector, and keep our boundary fence outside that barrier. We are happy to fence the rest of the block, but please do not rely on any product here for pool compliance.
What does an aluminium fence cost in Carindale, supply-only?
Panels start from $279 for horizontal slat, $368 for vertical picket and $399 for vertical blade, all 2400 mm wide (2350 mm for picket) in 1200 mm or 1800 mm heights. Posts start from $42 and pedestrian gates from $295. A typical Carindale side boundary of ten panels, with posts, caps and brackets, is priced on the actual run because most blocks need one or two panels cut to size. Bring the measurements in or send them through the contact page and we will quote it, valid for 30 days. Delivery to 4152 is quoted per order, or pick up free from Slacks Creek. Our Brisbane fencing cost guide shows how a full run adds up.
Can FY Fencing replace an old timber fence in MacGregor with aluminium on the same line?
Yes, and it is the most common job we quote in MacGregor, Sunnybank and Holland Park, where the original hardwood paling fences from the 1960s and 1970s are past their life. We can take down the old fence as part of an installed job, or you can remove it yourself and buy the panels supply-only. The new posts go on the same boundary line, so check your survey plan if there is any doubt about where that line sits. Aluminium does not rot, warp or need painting, and the aluminium carries a 10 year warranty. Our guide to replacing a timber fence with aluminium walks through the steps.
Does FY Fencing make panels to fit between brick piers in Mansfield?
Yes. Brick pier frontages are common through Mansfield, Carindale and Wishart, and the openings are rarely a standard width, so a stock panel never quite fits. We measure each opening, make the panel to that exact size and fix it to the piers with brackets rather than posts, so the brickwork stays as it is. Horizontal slat and vertical blade both look right between piers, and the 1200 mm height often lines up with the pier caps on older homes. If you want to do the job yourself, give us the opening sizes and we will make the panels for pickup. Our guide to fence panels between brick piers has the measuring steps.
Can I pick up a DIY kit from FY Fencing the next day for a Runcorn job?
Often, yes. Panels are made locally and custom orders are often order today, pick up tomorrow, so a Runcorn job that starts on Saturday can usually be ordered on Friday. Runcorn is about 10 km from Slacks Creek, so the trip down the Pacific Motorway to collect is quick. The yard is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 3:00pm, closed Sunday. Bring a ute, trailer or roof racks for 2400 mm panels, or ask for a delivery quote. Payment is cash, bank transfer, or credit and debit card in store only. Call ahead on 0478 577 688 to confirm your order is ready before you drive down.
Does FY Fencing deliver to Calamvale, Stretton and Algester?
Yes. Delivery runs across South East Queensland at an extra charge quoted per suburb, and Calamvale, Stretton and Algester are between about 12 km and 16 km from the yard. Tell us the suburb when you order and the delivery price goes on the quote alongside the panels. Yard pickup from Slacks Creek is free if you have a ute, trailer or roof racks for 2400 mm panels. For installed jobs there is no separate delivery line, because the panels arrive with the installers. Some newer estates in Stretton and Calamvale have their own rules on front fences, so check your estate documents and check with council before you order a front fence.
Who leads FY Fencing installs in Holland Park, and do they hold a QBCC licence?
Installation work is led by the director, Kejin Yang, who holds an active QBCC trade contractor licence (no. 15027695). The block is measured by FY, and the panels are welded locally to suit what the measure finds, whether that is a Holland Park slope, a retaining wall on the boundary or a brick pier frontage. The same team handles driveway gates and fits gate motors, with the power connection arranged separately through your electrician. Installed work comes with a 10 year warranty on the aluminium. Quotes are free and valid for 30 days, and the yard showroom is open six days a week.
What colours and heights does FY Fencing offer for Tarragindi and Rochedale orders?
The same range goes to every southside suburb, from Rochedale about 6 km away to Tarragindi about 19 km away. Panels come in three Colorbond colours, Black (Night Sky), Monument and White, in 1200 mm and 1800 mm heights. Horizontal slat and vertical blade panels are 2400 mm wide and vertical picket is 2350 mm wide. Posts, caps, brackets and gates are powder coated to match, so a black fence gets black posts and a black gate. Custom sizes are normal because most runs end in a part panel. If you are matching an existing fence, bring a photo or an old slat to the showroom and we will check the colour against the samples.
Does an FY Fencing electric gate in Sunnybank include the power connection?
No. Sliding gate motors start from $770 and swing gate motors from $1,100, and we supply and fit the motor to the gate, but the power connection is not included. You arrange an electrician to run power to the gate, and the motor is set up once that supply is in place. It is worth booking the electrician early so the gate is not sitting on manual for weeks. The gate itself carries the standard 10 year warranty on the aluminium. If you are weighing a motorised gate against a manual one for a Sunnybank driveway, ask during the free measure and we will price both.
How do I pay FY Fencing, and how long is a quote valid?
Payment is by cash, bank transfer, or credit and debit card in store only, so card payments happen at the Slacks Creek counter rather than over the phone. Quotes are free and valid for 30 days from the date issued, which gives you time to compare supply-only against installed and to check with council if a front fence or retaining wall is involved. For a supply-only order, confirm the panel list, colour and pickup or delivery date when you pay. For installed work in suburbs such as Coorparoo, Wishart or Eight Mile Plains, the install date is confirmed after the measure. Call 0478 577 688 or email info@fyfencing.com.au to get started.
